Dog Training

So here is my brag moment....

I have my youngest yorkie enrolled in training classes at Don's Pet Care in Ogden, UT. I must recommend this place to anyone struggling with bad animal habits. They have such a way of explaining things that it makes it incredibly easy to get through to some animals. I phrase it that way because some breeds of dogs are so stubborn (aka labs!). But anyway... this class is awesome. Cambry is already kicking her chewing habit and has had minimal potty accidents since we have started. This alone is shocking, being that yorkie's are one of the hardest breeds to house break.

Did you know that you can give dogs hydrogen peroxide to induce vomiting if they eat something that they shouldn't have (aka rocks, trash, rawhide chunks), also benadryl works for allergic reactions and pepto bismol and 12 hours of fasting will help with the normal human syptoms [nausea, heart burn, indegestion, upset stomach, diarrhea, yay pepto bismol... :) ]. Very Interesting to me!

Sorry... as I was saying... Today in class we started actual training, up till now we were working on handling and calming the dogs for the setting that they are in. Today we taught the dogs to sit and down by only using leash commands and NO verbalization. Just lift the leash up and they sit, lay the leash on the ground and they down. Seriously impressive when it works. And of course, my Cambry had to show off. (I promise she doesn't get it from me... hehe) Our eventual goal is to have the dog sit while we walk complete circles around the dog and try and distract the dog.... Cambry did this all today!!! She got a special treat from the teacher. Oh I am one very proud Mama!!
